Walk Smarter, Age Better!
Most of us walk with unconscious habits etched over a lifetime—patterns that strain our joints, reduce our balance, and slowly narrow our world. But with careful study and gentle practice, you can transform walking from an unconscious behavior into a personal foundation of strength, coordination, and confidence.
Led by Anti-Fragile Walking creator Andrew Gibbons, this immersive weekend retreat uses Awareness Through Movement® lessons and some essential anatomy to reawaken the intelligence of your stride. You’ll uncover the small changes that lead to major improvements—not by working harder, but by coordinating with more support, smoother timing and physical integrity.
This retreat is open to the public and to Feldenkrais practitioners and trainees looking to deepen their understanding of walking as a function. No prior experience with the Feldenkrais Method is required. Space is limited to ensure a focused and supportive learning environment.
Losing mobility is one of the greatest fears of aging—but it doesn’t have to be your story. The keys to resilient, pain-free walking are already inside you, waiting to be refined.
You’ll come away with:
A smoother, more stable stride.
A more embodied sense of balance, timing, and coordination.
Specific practices and metrics to keep walking well for years to come.
-
Break down the three phases of walking—the launch, the turn and the arrival—so you can improve anytime, anywhere.
Refine how your torso and hips arrive over each leg for a smoother, more trustworthy stride.
Improve your head and eye organization for balance, orientation, and ease.
Coordinate your spine to be true partner in balance with less tension.
Clarify the role of your feet and ankles in distributing force through your whole system.
Move beyond rigid bracing into the skill of dynamic balance moment by moment.
Create a functional, effective style of walking that supports you as you age.

Andrew Gibbons has been a Feldenkrais practitioner for over two decades, helping clients refine their movement, restore trust in their bodies, and age with greater ease. He created Anti-Fragile Walking to support the many students—particularly aging adults—who need to unlearn the habitual patterns that undermine their balance, posture, and stride. The program draws inspiration from his 30+ years navigating New York City on foot, where a fluid, resilient gait isn’t optional—it’s a survival skill.
Andrew has taught for institutions including the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan, the Doctoral Physical Therapy program at SUNY Stony Brook, and the Manhattan School of Music. He’s led public programs for the NYC Department for the Aging, spoken at Google’s New York headquarters, and contributed to the book The Feldenkrais Method: Learning Through Movement (Handspring Publishing, 2021).
He is an Assistant Trainer in international Feldenkrais teacher certification programs, including the Feldenkrais Training Academy in Seattle, where he mentors the next generation of practitioners.
Since 2008, Andrew has also served as the Feldenkrais practitioner-in-residence at the world-renowned Marlboro Music Festival, working each summer with elite classical musicians to support their performance, health, and longevity.
